The Nunawading ‘Burwood One’ Spectres have added the final piece to their puzzle, confirming Jacinta Vandenberg will anchor the front court this South East Australian Basketball League season.

Vandenberg returns to Australia following a 5-year collegiate career with Fresno State and Oregon, including an appearance in the Elite Eight in 2017. The 6’5” centre also spending time late last year with German team Wasserburg.

“We’re really excited to have Jacinta join us this season,” Nunawading Head Coach Paul Flynn said.

“She’s a great fit for our program both on and off the court and I’m looking forward to impact she will have in the league this season.”

“We’ve worked together really well previously and I’m excited to see what we can achieve together with our Nunawading team.”

Vandenberg played for Flynn at Dandenong before heading to Fresno State in 2012.

“I’m looking forward to playing under Paul again and to play with such a unique and great bunch of girls,” Vandenberg added, who will be playing on home soil for the first time in six years.

“I’m excited to see what we can achieve in this league.”

The Spectres now boast a strong frontline that looks the perfect match to the guard rotation that was finalised earlier this week.

“We’ve finally got all the pieces of our puzzle sorted,” Flynn said.

“It’s an exciting group to be working with and one I believe our junior program will enjoy watching when it comes to the season proper.”

“Introducing six new players to the program and elevating a couple from our youth team on top of a new coaching staff, it’s going to take some time for us to iron things out, but the work rate and dedication to the cause has been exceptional. We’ve never had so many players in voluntarily for individual or small group workouts before – they’re hungry and that’s a great sign for our program.”
