The Diamond Valley Eagles have had a disrupted start to their season in terms of player availability but with almost a full roster at their disposal, Lauren Scherf led them to a big win over Sandringham in Round 5.

Alongside strong performances from the likes of Ezi Magbegor, Abbey Wehrung and Chevannah Paalvast, Scherf starred with 31 points, 13 rebounds, three assists, three steals and three blocks in a dominant performance under the rim as Diamond Valley defeated the Sabres, 93-83.

Sandringham entered the contest on a three-game winning streak and looked like one of the hottest teams in the league but Scherf halted their momentum with a stunning first quarter on Saturday night.

She scored eight points from her own hand and assisted on another five as Diamond Valley took a 29-16 lead into quarter-time while her defence was just as stellar, collecting two steals and a block on Rachel Jarry.

The hot shooting continued into the second term with Scherf scoring ten of the Eagles’ first 11 points as they opened up a 14-point advantage.

Scherf got a well-earned rest for the final five minutes of the half and was quieter in the third period but still made her presence known with a block on Jess Bygate while she tallied a double-double with two minutes remaining in the third.

Sandringham fought back to close within six points in the last quarter but Scherf helped hold them off with another basket, pushing the lead out to double-digits where it would stay until the final siren.

The centre now leads the competition for rebounds with 13.5 per game, sits fifth for free-throw percentage at 88.9% and fifth for total blocks with 12.

Lauren Scherf Round 5 Stats: 31 points on 13-20 shooting, 13 rebounds (three offensive), three assists, three steals and three blocks.
