The reigning SEABL Women’s Defensive Player of the Year, Emily Fryters, has re-signed with the Kilsyth Lady Cobras for the 2017 season.
Fryters had a standout first season with Kilsyth, anchoring the Lady Cobras top-ranked defence (65.0ppg allowed) while averaging team-highs in rebounds (9.4rpg) and blocked shots (1.1bpg) in 2016.
The undersized center won fans over with her relentless hustle on both ends of the floor, with her 84 offensive rebounds good for fifth-best in the league last season.
“I am thrilled to have the league’s Defensive Player of the Year back,” Lady Cobras Head Coach Sam Woosnam said.
“She played big minutes last year and was one of the main reasons we finished as well as we did.”
Fryters will join the recently un-retired Sarah Parsons in the frontcourt, with the pair having established themselves as two of the league’s top defensive players for the better part of the past decade.
Woosnam is excited at the prospect of forming one of SEABL’s most fearsome defensive duos, and while Fryters is known as a defensive specialist, her coach is counting on increased production on the offensive end, too.
“Emily is a tough competitor and with her and Sarah on the floor together, it will make us tougher defensively,” Woosnam added.
“Emily has also been working on becoming more of an offensive threat to complete her game, and she’s made some positive strides in this area over the past 12 months.”
