The GMHBA Ballarat Miners are excited to announce that local boy Cam McCallum has signed with the club as an addition to the 2016 roster.
Ballarat may remember Cam from his days as a Miner in 2012 and 2013 when he played under Coach Guy Molloy, before taking a break from basketball and trying his hand at football, travelling through Europe and playing basketball in the United Kingdom.
Impressively, Cam managed to average 5.3 points per game and 4.5 rebounds during his time at SEABL level.
McCallum has recently come off his third season with Melton in the Big V, where he played as a forward and held leadership roles and even lead his team to a championship.
At 6’8”, Cam will provide some additional support and height, being 6’ 8’ to the current roster and his ability to read the game well really supports his agility on the court, said Head Coach Eric Hayes.
Hayes paid testament to Cam’s hard working attitude and noted he has been a regular at pre-season training and has done plenty of individual work and strength and conditioning work.
McCallum noted that his ability to read the ball well will assist him in winning obtaining rebounds against some of the bigger guys in the league.
On signing with the Miners Cam stated “I am really excited to come to play for the GMHBA Ballarat Miners in Ballarat and look forward representing Ballarat once more”. McCallum is looking forward to playing under Eric Hayes and looks forward to being a part of what the Ballarat Miners are building in 2017.
Cam will hit the court for the first time, when the Ballarat Miners open their campaign against the Geelong Supercats on Friday March 31 at Geelong. He will make his return to the Mars Minerdome on 8:00pm Thursday April 6 to take on Frankston.
