Friday, January 19, 2018

The Castec Rural Supplies Mount Gambier Pioneers championship captain Tom Daly has committed to the Pioneers program for a further 2 seasons.

Coming off his third national championship win in four years and his first as captain Tom  is excited to recommit to the Pioneers.

“ I’m very happy and grateful to be on board for the next two seasons, its a privilege to play for the Pioneers and I think the future is bright for us here. I believe we’re putting together a strong group again with some exciting new talent and I can’t wait to get all the guys in and get to work! I want to publicly thank everyone at the club who has believed in me in the past and now for the future”– Tom said.

Tom has continued to grow and improve as a player, having  his best season last year averaging 16.7 points 3.2 rebounds and 4.9 assists per game. Tom’s outstanding season was reflected by his overdue inclusion on the all SEABL team and culminated in him leading his team to a National Championship whilst winning the Grand Final MVP.

“Tom continues to improve each season, he is committed, hard working , sets an outstanding example for his team mates and most importantly  is a winner”  Pioneers coach  Richard Hill said.

There was never any doubt that Tom would be returning. He now has family in Mount Gambier and calls the  Lake City home.

“The decision to stay was easy, I’ve loved each of my five seasons in Mount Gambier on and off the court and I was always determined to help lead the team to the highest success again in 2018. My young family also now call the Mount home and don’t take for granted the wonderful support we receive from a fantastic club and community. We all look forward to enjoying more success together.”  Tom concluded.

Whilst Tom is settled in Mount Gambier he hasn’t given up on returning to the NBL where he spent 4 seasons with the Adelaide 36ers. “Tom is now much better equipped to play at the highest level” “Each game Tom matches up against high level Australian or import point guards  and he invariably comes out on top, he is worthy and certainly deserves another chance” Pioneers coach Richard Hill noted.

The Castec Rural Supplies Pioneers are gearing up to defend their National Championship and continue their incredible run of success Tom is a big part of this. He joins the returning Erik Burdon, Kane Dewitt, Luke Jamieson, Dellon Brown and Lachie Hunter and new additions Lewis Thomas and Kyle Tipene.
